Elite Athlete Program
The Elite Athlete Program is run by the Gold Coast Volleyball Club to assist members who are looking to further develop their skills into higher levels of competition. These athletes may be wanting to compete in higher standards of play or acheive sporting careers within the sport of volleyball. Through this program athletes will have access to a number of competitions as well as ongoing training.
In our regular season, athletes will be involved in the following competitions:
Premier Volleyball league (PVL) The PVL is a weekly competition run by Volleyball Queensland and is the highest level of weekly played volleyball in south east Queensland and offers multiple divisions across the PVL format including Juniors and Seniors. Competition generally starts at the beginning of April and runs until late August.
Dragons Flaming Chalice Tournament
Dragons Volleyball Association runs its Flaming Chalice Tournament each year on the Labour Day long weekend (first weekend in May). Run every year since 1991, Flaming Chalice is the largest association-run tournament in Queensland attracting teams from as far afield as Townsville, Dalby and Sydney, as well as Queensland Representative Teams and occasionally international teams. Usually more than 90 teams participate across the 12 divisions!
Queensland State Championships
Each year, Volleyball Queensland’s State Championships plays host to volleyball associations and clubs from across Queensland. As teams compete for the most prestigious trophies in the state – the VQ State Championships and the VQ President’s Shield, awarded to the best performing association or club across all divisions – the State Championships is an action packed tournament.
